I'm really excited about the music round @
somein30! This round was so inspiring, and I really liked being able to use different techniques/styles to show the different genres. I only did 1 icon per genre, but I am seriously considering making another batch.
Just be prepared for a bit of a ramble, lol! I'm in the process of rewatching Memories of the Alhambra with my two sisters and felt like the story really fit with the music genres! So each icon's storyline fits the feel of the genre. I went with extra-hard mode as usual.
Pop: I felt as though Go Yoo-ra really fit the idea of pop as a character. She is in the middle of divorcing Yoo Jin-woo (the male lead played by Hyun Bin). She's an aspiring actress who married Jin-woo for his money. I though the words relationships and entertainment suited her well. I went for vibrant colors to fit the pop genre while going for a matte-look to show the grittier side of her personality. I decided to go with the close-up profile with text over the hair like this icon. I also used this texture and this texture.
Hip-hop: This scene takes place in a cathedral, but I though that Jin-woo's suit and gun really had more of an urban-feel. Also, he's in the middle of shooting his former best friend who has (unbeknownst to him) become a bug in the game. All this occurred at the best friend's memorial service. Rather than fitting the actual scene, I think the rap fit the circumstances. I decided to go for a gritty urban scene like in this icon with skyscrapers in the background and used this texture, this texture, this texture, and this texture.
Punk: Determined to figure out why the game was glitching and what happened to Se-joo who created the AR game, Jin-woo became obssessed with leveling-up in order to face-off his in-game enemies. I think independent fit him. Although he wasn't afraid to ask for help when he needed it, he really did try to make it on his own. I used this texture, this texture, and this texture.
Metal: After his former friend and betrayer (the guy stole Jin-woo's wife) was killed in game and in real life, Jin-woo had to keep "killing" Cha Hyun Suk because Hyun Suk kept popping up like a zombie in the game. There was a lot of demonstration of power, aggression, and impact in this scene. I really liked the lighting in this icon and the way the text kind of faded into the light, so I incorporated it vertically instead of horizontally. I also used this texture
Classical: Since the drama was set in modern times, I was having a little trouble deciding which scene to do. I thought about doing an icon of Emma (one of the in-game characters), but I already had used her in two icons (see below). I guess I could have used a scene with Hee-joo playing the guitar since both she and Emma play classical guitar. Instead, I opted to go for a classical "feel" with Hee-joo wearing a light, dreamy dress going for a more formal, romantic, and slightly traditional icon. I liked the dreamy lighting in this icon, so I tried to incorporate it into my icon. I've always love the dreamy feel of Moonlight Sonata and tried to give the icon a sort of dark, dreamy feel on one side and a light, dreamy feel on the other side. I was inspired by this texture of butterflies to make the icon into a GIF (didn't end up using the texture though).
Jazz: As soon as I saw the promo image of Emma in a black dress, I knew that I wanted to use it for the jazz genre. I think the jazz genre suited the scene as well as Emma's appearances in the game and how she felt mysterious in her interaction as well as her stylish appearances. I used this texture and this texture.
Folk: This dress of Emma's is my very favorite of her dresses. It was very sultry and mysterious especially combined with Emma's blue eyes. However, I opted to do folk instead because of the scene. The scene is set in a cafe which ends up having the atmosphere of a tavern because of the game (complete with authentic pirates). This scene is when Jin-woo meets Emma for the first time and mistakenly thinks she is Hee-joo. The piece that she plays is Recuerdos de la Alhambra" (by Francisco Tárrega) which adds to the mysterious feeling of the unknown. I also used this texture.
Electro: This genre was really fun because the main premise of the drama is that various characters are playing an AR game. Words such as digital, experimental, futuristic, technology, and effects make perfect sense when you think of AR games, especially when you are able to immerse yourself in the game rather than simply view the game through a mobile device or AR glasses. I was inspired by this icon, this icon, and this icon and used this texture, this texture, and this texture.
