Retro_Icontest: Turbo_Rumble, Round 17

I admit I was really excited about the Turbo Rumble round at retro_icontest. Back in the day, I participated in a few (mostly fashion or maybe period?), but I never got to the end.

This time I just randomly decided to a set of Éowyn in The Two Towers. Not sure how I feel about this set though. Antique, trend, and portrait seem to have the same vibe, and I don't know if any of them really captured the themes well.

Great work! My favorites are Shine, Antique, and Trend (how did you get that look? I'm obsessed!) The coloring on all of them is really nice and soft.

Trend was mostly coloring with gradient maps and using color layers to color her hair. That and surface blur and the cutout filter. I have the psd file, so if you want a tutorial, I'd be glad to do one.

I don't think I've ever used the cutout filter or surface blur before! If you could do a tutorial, that would be lovely!

OOHH!! I love how the first one looks like a coin!CAN WE PETITION TO CHANGE ALL THE CURRENCIES IN THE WORLD TO LOTR CURRENCY!!

The 2nd icon is wonderful but the antique one is on another level!The sfotness, the muted colours and the book page style-wow! Portrtait is so pretty! Also loving the painted look in 4!

absolutely OBSESSED with that first icon, it's gorgeous! the set as a whole is v v nice, but i'm also partial to Antique (love the composition!) and Multitudes (the progression through this scene via the caps you chose, as well as the overall composition, is just really nice, i like it a lot!). also just want to say that the coloring is lovely on all of these; it's a really beautiful set!

I don't know if any of them really captured the themes well.

I kept thinking the same when I made my set - I found it really hard that the challenge didn't specify any details with the themes, so I was never sure I got them right.

I think your icons are awesome!

I adore Trend, the soft and muted coloring is very special, and I wouldn't know how to achieve it at all! I also love the flat complementary coloring in Shine, the crop in Division, and the amazing dynamic and glowing hair in Portrait.

Yeah, it was definitely challenging not having detail, but it was definitely good practice. I tend to like the challenges with a lot of inspo to work with since I'm not really good with being creative on my own.
